The Team

Hello, I’m Shirley Brocklehurst, the principal practitioner on the programme, and I’m an integrative therapist.

A registered Dance Movement Psychotherapist in private practice, I also work on a freelance basis for Edge Hill University, Cheshire Dance and Parkinson’s UK and I’m linked to the GP’s surgeries through the Social Prescription service.  As well as my Masters Degree in DMP, I am a qualified Postural Stability Instructor – trained in FaME and Otago methods, a Level 3 exercise professional and an accredited teacher with the Keep Fit Association.  I hold qualifications in both adapted and traditional forms with the Tai Chi for Health Institute and the International Tai Chi Alliance, as well as medical qi gong.  I’m a member of the Tai Chi Union of Great Britain, CIMSPA (Chartered Institute for the Management of Sports and Physical Activity) and the UKCP (UK Council for Psychotherapy).

I am ably supported in the programme by my ‘lovely assistant’ (his words) Tony Carr.

Tony has qualifications with the International Tai Chi Alliance in traditional forms and medical qi gong and is also a member of the Tai Chi Union of Great Britain. Having worked in the NHS for many years, Tony has qualifications in working with special populations such as Dementia, Parkinson’s and mental health.  He has a military background and jokingly describes himself as a former ‘lifter of heavy things’.
